Refinitiv: Lipper European fund flow report - H1 2020

Oh, a decent PR email at last! I love our Detlef! 'And Nsikan, boss.' Oh, of course, Voice. Nsikan is the guy that writes the emails, dear reader(s). He's a PR specialist, by all accounts.

Anyway ...

The H1 European fund flow industry report from the Lipper team at Refinitiv:

Great!

The European fund industry faced estimated net inflows in H1 2020.
The overall fund flows for mutual funds in Europe amounted to estimated net inflows of €123.0 bn for H1 2020.
Money market funds (+€152.5 bn) were the best-selling individual asset type overall for H1 2020.
Lay All Your Love On Me.
Equity Global (+€35.0 bn) was the best-selling sector among long-term funds for H1 2020.
JP Morgan, with net sales of €52.7 bn, was the best-selling fund promoter for H1 2020 overall, well ahead of BlackRock (+€36.4 bn) and Goldman Sachs (+€21.2 bn).
The European fund market increased by 21 funds over the course of H1 2020.

Okay, okay. I wonder if our Detlef can say anything interesting about it ... 'I bet he can, boss. He's an expert.' Of course he is!

Come on, Detlef!

Detlef Glow, Lipper Head of EMEA Research at Refinitiv, comments: "The Thing hit the European fund industry with declining markets and estimated net outflows of €125.9 bn in the first quarter of 2020. This trend reversed over the course of the second quarter as central banks and governments around the globe started quantitative easing programs and economic relief packages to cushion the economic drawdowns caused by the spread of The Thing and the lockdowns of economies around the globe.

"The measures taken led to a rebound of the equity markets accompanied by falling interest rates. The return to somewhat normal market circumstances led investors to buy back into mutual funds and ETFs. As a result, the European fund industry enjoyed inflows of €123.0 bn over the course of the first half of 2020. Taking all of this into account, H1 2020 was, despite the inflows, a tough period for the European fund industry."

Nice one, son!

ENDS

...

Anything else? Music? My music?! Well, I'm making progress with that chorus. Last night I wrote the first half of it, and earlier this morning I wrote ... two seconds of the second half. Yes, I'm slowly moving along the Straight Line. It's a great system. Thanks, Jordan!

I want the second half to be "special". ABBA are/were the best at writing exciting second halves of choruses.

Here are some examples -

SOS - first half, 0.44 to 0.58 / second half, 0.59 to 1.14

Dancing Queen - first half, 1.25 to 1.45 / second half, 1.46 to 2.07

Mamma Mia - first half, 0.50 to 1.02 / second half, 1.03 to 1.13

Actually, I'm not sure that other songwriters are even aware of this technique. Maybe I've just discovered ABBA's secret weapon. But you know me, kook(s) ... I'm always analysing stuff. Not much escapes me.

Laters!
