Diarmuid Ryan is the global head

Okay, okay ... / Yes, he's, uh ... the global head. 'Of what, boss?' Er ... what, Voice? 'Eh?' What? 'Of what?' What?! 'Christ! Of what is he the head?' Who? 'Christ!' Christ?! 'No, not Christ.' Who then? 'What?' Who are you talking about? 'Jesus H. - !!!' Yeah, the same person. 'Who is?' What? 'Who's the same person? Who are you talking about, boss?' Diarmuid Ryan. But he's not Jesus. 'I never said he was! So, what is he the global head of?' Diarmuid? 'Yes!' Our Diarmuid is the global head of hedge fund services. 'Where?' Ireland. 'I mean, which company?' Well, why didn't you ask that then? 'I just did!' Okay. Okay. Uh. Okay.

Well, well ... / Never mind, dear reader(s). I'm actually exhausted now, dealing with this idiot. I can't get the staff, you know. / Anyway, from their website - 'Whose website?!' Just read it, man!

Ryan joins BNP Paribas from State Street Alternative Investment Solutions where he held several senior executive positions in New York and Ireland over the past 10 years. In this newly created role, Ryan will focus on deepening relationships with new and existing clients across the US, EMEA and APAC, and delivering strategic end-to-end solutions, including digital services, tailored to their requirements. Ryan will be based in Dublin, reporting into BNP Paribas Securities Services' Global Head of Alternatives, Ian Lynch.

I hope that explains everything. 'It does, boss. Thank you.' I wasn't talking to you, Voice. 'Oh. Lovely!' Shut up!

...

Right. Anything else? Okay. Some thoughts ... on art and life, and my music. / Listen, Beethoven's music ain't some great gift to humanity, man. He's not soft and poetic like Mozart. He's very aggressive. His Ninth symphony is the apex of his aggression. [Karajan, 1977.] It's as if he's saying to the listener: You think you're like me? You ain't nothing like me, muthafucka! That's the quality I've gone for in my three best songs - with the music and the words. It's a natural reaction to the universe being the way it is. I mean, we've been dumped here on earth ... maybe by God, or maybe by aliens. Or maybe we just crawled out of the fucking sea for no particular reason. You dig? But none of it makes any sense. Existence doesn't make any sense. There's no reason for it. So you get a guy like Beethoven, and he naturally wants to let off a bit of steam. Well, that's what I'm doing, too.

[By the way, if people aren't interested in a rocket trip to Mars, Elon Musk should just say to them, "See you around! I'm off!"]

Okay. Laters.

Pamplona Capital has sold BBB Industries!

Yeah, that's the news. It's nice to have some news for a change. Now I can go back to sleep. 'Back to sleep, boss?!' I had a rough night, Voice. It's this heat. Hopefully, it'll be gone soon and we can get back to a normal English summer of cold and rain. / No, I'm not going to sleep again, dear reader(s). I've got work to do. Starting with this PR email -

London / New York - Pamplona Capital Management, LLP ("Pamplona") is pleased to announce the sale of BBB Industries, LLC ("BBB Industries" or the "Company") to Genstar Capital.

BBB supplies non-discretionary replacement parts in the North American automotive aftermarket, primarily focused on the do-it-for-me light vehicle aftermarket and serves vehicle owners, professional technicians and franchised dealers. BBB Industries has a broad product offering, including starters, alternators, hydraulic steering, brake calipers, electric power assisted steering and turbochargers. Its 30,000+ SKUs are sold through warehouse distributors, retail outlets, and OEM service organizations. Founded in 1987, the Company is based in Daphne, AL.

Well, that's all right, ain't it? ("All right"). / Marty has something he wants to say about it, of course. 'Who's Marty?!' He's a partner at Pamplona, man. 'Oh.' Yeah. Big time.

Commenting on the transaction, Martin Schwab, Partner at Pamplona, said: "We are delighted with the growth BBB Industries has achieved under Pamplona's ownership. We accomplished our plan of investing in the Company's talent pool, diversifying the Company's customer base and expanding into new product groups, both organically and through strategic acquisitions. We wish the Company and its management team continued success and growth with its new partner."

You see? Marty is delighted. But, uh ... does he get any thanks? No. And does Pamplona get any thanks? No. 'Christ!' You would think that someone from BBB Industries would come on here, to this blog, large as life, and say a few words. Just to show their gratitude, you dig? 'Hang on, boss.' But no, no, no ... no one can be bothered. That's the world we're living in today, dear reader(s). Everyone is so wrapped up in themselves, not giving a damn. It's a disgrace! I reckon - 'Boss!' What, Voice? 'I've got Duncan for you.' Who?! 'Duncan, man. Duncan Gillis from BBB Industries. I dragged him out of bed - by his soul!' By his soul? Oh, okay. Let's hear what he's got to say then ...

Duncan Gillis, CEO of BBB Industries, says, at long last: "I would like to thank Pamplona for all their support over the last few years. They have been a hugely valuable shareholder and partner for our management team."

Well, okay, okay ... better late than never. Thanks, Duncan! / How did you do it, Voice? 'Well, I dragged him, and just said: Get your shit together, man. Show a bit of class.' Good!

ENDS

...

Anything else? No, not at the moment. Oh! Actually, my local Tesco garage shop have upped their game. 'How?' They've brought back the luxury cheese and pickle sandwich. 'Yippee!' So I'll be having that for lunch.

Massive action for the middle-aged

Okay, okay. Listen to me. / The concept of massive action makes more sense for middle-aged people than it does for young people. That's just my opinion, man. The harsh truth is, once you hit fifty ... you haven't got much to look forward to in life. So that's when you should go against the "normal" thing in society and just 10X everything. / When you're in your twenties and thirties you should be enjoying yourself. Forget about a career at that age. Only squares would be in the office on a sunny day when there's ice cream to eat in the park. You dig?

However, if you're middle-aged, like me ... the best way to avoid thoughts of death is to work all the time. / Look at Prabhupada! Oh, you don't know him, dear reader(s)? He was the founder of Krishna Consciousness. He was more or less a regular guy until the age of seventy when his wife sold his religious books to buy some fucking biscuits. Well, he went APESHIT!!! Prabhupada left his wife and family in India and bought a one-way ticket to America. He had seven dollars in his pocket. He actually had two heart attacks on the boat going over there. He just didn't care. And did he know anyone in America? Ha! No, not a soul. The guy didn't give a toss, man. / So what happened to him? Well, within twelve years (before he died) he opened 108 temples around the world, he started an incense business, he started the world's first chain of vegetarian restaurants, he recorded twenty albums of devotional music, he published a magazine that sold over a million copies an issue, he opened some primary schools, and he wrote roughly seventy books. Oh, he slept two or three hours a night. And all because his missus wanted a packet of biscuits.

So, over the next twenty years - which will take me to the age that Prabhupada was when he began the massive action lifestyle - I will become the greatest rock star and songwriter ever. Don't tell me it's impossible, dear reader(s). Like Elon Musk, I couldn't give two shits what is impossible. Believe me. / So, if you're young ... it's a lovely day today. The sun is shining. You can tell your boss to stuff his ridiculous job. Or her job. Right? Enjoy yourself! / But if you're old, if your best days are behind you ... then NOW(!!!) is the time for you to go absolutely nuts and just do the most outlandish shit you can think of. Be ambitious! Are you digging me on this? Because make no mistake, the Grim Reaper has got his eye on you.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend. Laters!

People are investing in wonky fruit and veg now

For some reason. I don't know what's going on. I'm a vegetarian, but I like normal fruit and veg, you dig? Not wonky. Christ! Never mind. It's a funny old world ... 'Are you making this up, boss?' Oh, hello! No, I'm not, Voice. It's a PR email. Look! -

London, United Kingdom - Oddbox, London's biggest independent wonky fruit and veg box scheme, reached its crowdfunding target in record time to enable it to expand its unique service to even more customers. It initially hoped to raise £350,000 but investors saw the huge potential offered by the business and it over-funded to a tune of £520,000.

You see, Voice, reader(s)? 'Strange.' Yeah. Bendy bananas. It's the will of the people, son. 'Is it?!' Bendy bananas are worth destroying a nation for, believe me.

The purpose-driven business has captured people's imagination by offering a quality, sustainably-sourced product which is conveniently delivered to your door at a great price. Oddbox's weekly boxes are filled with delicious wonky and surplus fruit and veg that have been rescued from farms and would otherwise have been wasted. It pays farmers a fair price for their produce and donates up to 10% to tackle food poverty by partnering with charities like City Harvest.

Well, okay. I suppose it makes sense in these austere times. Actually, after Brexit, I imagine everyone will be eating wonky food. 'Chickens from America, boss, washed in lovely chlorine!' Ha! Well, I won't be touching those, man! FFS!

Anyway, let's hear from our Emilie ...

Emilie Vanpoperinghe, Oddbox co-founder explains: "We are incredibly humbled to have exceeded our investment target in such a short space of time. The support we have had from customers and investors has been phenomenal and we can't thank them enough. We believe wholeheartedly in our wonky fruit and veg scheme and we're looking forward to bringing it to more people. We won't stop there though, our mission is to fundamentally shift food standards and eventually, normalize wonky produce and we need everyone to get involved. Come and join the wonky veg revolution with us!"

Ha! Well, I'm not sure I want to join them in their revolution, really. I'm, uh ... rather busy, at the moment, like. However, I wish them the best of luck with it.

...

Anything else, dear pop fan(s)? Music? Right. I'm confident my debut album will be the greatest album ever recorded. The greatest of all times!!! I've convinced myself, man. That should mean I'll be able to get up to arena status pretty quickly when touring. I'm thinking though, five such albums within ten years could get me up to stadium status - which has got to be my ultimate goal. I mean, I don't want to be some middle-aged guy going up and down the motorway in a van two hundred times a year playing small gigs in pubs and clubs. I'm sorry, but I couldn't cope with the heartache of it all. Do you know what I mean?

Tech investment in the UK

A huge boost, apparently. Not that it will do much good with Brexit on the horizon. 'Don't be so negative, boss.' Shut up, Voice! 'Ha! Only joking, man. Be as negative as you like.' Well, thank you. / Yeah, it's only £300,000, anyway. Maybe it will do some good, and maybe it won't. What do I know?

Last week saw Sadiq Khan launch a major new initiative to provide a boost to the tech sector in the capital. Announcing the programme at WIRED Live, he confirmed that City Hall intends to fund 20 investment days across the next four years. The Mayor will have full funding support from the UK Business Angels Association following their promise to match the Mayor's contribution.

So, uh ... angels, then. 'What ... real angels?!' I don't know. I hope so. It would be nice, wouldn't it? In these dark times, we could do with some hardcore spiritual help.

These investment days are vital to the UK tech sector, with over £140m raised through existing TechInvest days.

Okay, okay. £140 million. Not bad, I suppose.

The Mayor announced that the Greater London Authority will be investing £280,000 into the events programme, however this will be doubled following the UK Business Angels Association's announcement that they will match it. The events schedule will focus on different aspects of the tech sector over the next few years, allowing funding to reach a wider tech audience. The programme will also offer coaching for business leaders, who will be connected to experienced investors in the industry.

Right. The thing is, I don't think angels get involved with business, do they? Is it even allowed by God? 'No, it sounds dodgy, boss.' That's the problem with these PR emails, man. Can we trust what they say? I mean, I could send out emails telling everyone I'm the second coming of Jesus Christ. 'Yeah. I'm surprised you haven't done it already.' And I could ask people to invest in the holy Mikeycoin, but ... 'It would be total bullshit, boss.' Exactly! Of course it would.

Anyway, Jenny wants to say something ...

Jenny Tooth, CEO of the UKBAA, said: "The Mayor's new campaign reflects the huge range of innovative technologies, products and services being developed here in the capital; and demonstrates a strong capacity for scale and market disruption. UKBAA is delighted to continually support and highlight the success stories of the fantastic entrepreneurs in these sectors, as well as recognizing the contribution made by their investors who bring such vital finance and support. At UKBAA, we will continue to support the UK's tech growth with capacity building actions, including new regional Angel Hubs, combined with our new national e-learning programme on angel investing."

Okay, okay. Uh. Well, at least they believe in angels. That's something. So many business people are just awful squares who believe in nothing supernatural. 'What are angel hubs though?' Er, I presume they are ... well, offices for the angels to hang out in. You dig? 'Oh.' If they're coming to earth to help us, man, it's only fair that we give them a base to work from.

Okay, that's enough, dear reader(s). Laters.

Put your troubles to the back of your mind, and put your goals to the front of your mind

Right. Okay. Day One of my new motivational blog. 'What, boss?!' This is my new motivational blog, Voice. 'Oh, you're not serious! Where's the financial news?!' Ha! No one has sent me any decent PR emails, man. I've looked around for news, but it's nearly August. Everyone's on holiday. No one's interested. There's NOTHING going on. I want to do SOMETHING else. ANYTHING!!!

Right. Okay. Anyway, what you've got to do, dear reader(s), is put all your troubles and fears, etc, to the back of your mind. You can't get rid of them. There's no chance they're going to leave you alone. But the trick is, to be vaguely aware of them ... while you focus on your goals and dreams and visions at the front of your mind. Focus on what you want to achieve. Hopefully, your troubles and fears will be behind your goals, pushing them forward. You dig? But what you don't want to do is spend your time thinking about all the bad shit in your life ... while the good shit you're going after just disappears. / Right. Touch the back of your head, reader(s). Do it now! And say to yourself: "This is the bad shit. I want nothing to do with it." Have you done that? Good! You can do it a few times, if you want. Right. Now, touch your forehead, and say: "This is the good shit. This is what I want, and I want all of it." Okay?

There's no need to thank me. Do it every day and see if things improve in your life. 'That's great, boss!' Thanks, Voice.

...

Anything else? I didn't record my songs yesterday. I've got a bad back. However, I'm not thinking about it, you dig? What I am thinking about, man, is the FACT(!!!) that I can record the Citizen Kane of albums with the songs I already have. Another song like Nothing would be nice, but I don't think it's needed. So I'm happy.

Brexit? Uh. Christ! I'm not happy about that. I'm sorry. I'm not happy about the army guarding supermarkets. That's not my idea of sunlit uplands. 'Put it to the back of your mind, Mikey!' I'm not happy about the Kremlin running our country - and America, too! / I suppose you've got to take your hat off to Putin. He's a clever guy. I mean, winning the Third World War without even firing a shot is just pure fucking genius. However, we shouldn't be happy about it.

Actually, we shouldn't think about it. You dig? Let's be happy!

Laters.

So, uh ...

Yeah, yeah ... / It's the last post of the week, and I have absolutely no desire to write about the financial news because it's supposed to be the hottest day ever today. And I'm not so crazy that I would write about finance on such a day.

Also, there's no Voice today. I told him to not bother turning up for work. It's too hot to be dealing with his idiocy. He's probably on the astral plane now, getting a suntan. Good luck to him! Oh, we'll see him again next week. Well, not actually see him. The bastard is invisible. But we'll hear him. You know what I mean, dear reader(s) ... ? Yes, of course you do.

I'm looking forward to Sunday, frankly. They reckon it might be in the low twenties then. And that's a perfect temperature for recording my songs. Over the next three days, I hope to rehearse five or six hours a day. [Maybe I'll work on a new tune, too.] I'll just sit and play in front of the fan, man. And I don't mean pop fan. Christ! I don't have one pop fan following me around. I mean the fan to keep cool, you dig?

Actually, I think the fan gave me a migraine yesterday - which knocked me out from midday onwards. I can get a migraine from anything. It's a real nuisance. If I were touring, I would have to cancel gigs. That's how bad it can be.

So, uh ... The Beatles made a big mistake not putting Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane on Sgt. Pepper. [George Martin said it was the biggest regret of his career.] There are too many weak songs on that album. And those two songs would have made it more like a Citizen Kane of albums. Never mind, eh?

I've been listening to quite a few unsigned bands and artists on Twitter. All the songs are weak. The mistake they make - and it's the same mistake I made with my first demo - is ... the songs are just good enough. I mean, maybe they write a couple of songs which would be good enough to get on a Beatles album, and then, I suppose, they get the idea in their heads that they can write like Lennon and McCartney. But the songs won't be on the level of Hey Jude or A Day In The Life. They'll be like Dr Robert or The Night Before. You dig? You can't get a deal with such material, man. And the hard part is keeping a deal, by the way. One of my favourite albums is So Much For The City by The Thrills. But they were dropped eventually.

Anyway, I'm listening to The Thrills now. It's perfect Californian summer music. Laters!
