TMF Group expands!

Yes, yes. It expands! 'Brilliant!' Yes! 'But, uh ... what, how ... does it expand, boss? Explain! Explain it to me, and to your readers. Come on!' Calm down, son.

Okay, okay. Voice, reader(s). Listen! Obviously, it's another PR email BECAUSE(!) ... [drum roll] ... well, why not? WHY NOT?!

Here we go ...

TMF Group, a leading provider of global business services, has completed the acquisition of State Street's private equity and real estate fund administration business in the Channel Islands.

You see? An acquisition. It's as simple and as easy as that. 'So we're not talking about, like, uh ... the universe expanding? Nothing like that?' Oh, it's nothing like that, my little invisible friend. 'Thank God!' Ha! You're so funny.

It doesn't really matter how a firm expands, does it?

The acquisition is a key milestone in TMF Group's drive to further grow its fund services business and means it now has over $125 billion in client assets under administration within fund services, making it one of the leading fund administrators in Europe. TMF Group's 'one-stop-shop' of fund services, including fund administration and depositary services, is supported by experts in over 80 jurisdictions worldwide.

Supported by experts! That's what I like to see! 'Well, that's a relief.' Of course it is! Imagine if they were supported by idiotic amateurs who had absolutely no idea what was going on. 'You mean people who are ... I don't know, totally clueless?' Yes. That sort. We don't need that sort. 'No.' WE NEED MORE EXPERTS IN THIS WORLD!!! 'Yes.' Especially with Brexit. 'Ha, ha, ha!' What? 'Experts aren't needed with Brexit, boss. All you need for Brexit is ... Christ knows! But you don't need experts.'

Let's forget about Brexit, eh?

In Jersey, the acquisition of State Street's private equity and real estate business adds fund administration to its existing corporate and trust services, whilst in Guernsey, it complements the recent acquisition of Gentoo, a leading fund administration business.

Okay, okay. Jersey? A lot of crime there. 'No there isn't!' Er, watch Bergerac, idiot!

Okay, okay. Right. I think we need to know if Mark Weil is excited or not. What do you reckon, Voice? 'Are you taking bets?' No. Just tell me. Is Mark excited? And without cheating! Don't look at the email. 'Okay. Er ... I reckon he's delighted.' Delighted. All right. And you, dear reader(s)? Do you think that he's maybe ... thrilled? 'Damn!' What? 'I should have said thrilled. Can I change?' No. You're stuck with delighted now. 'Well, tell us then!'

Okay, okay ... [drum roll] ... 'Come on, boss! The suspense is killing me!' ... Ha! ... [drum roll] ... here we are! -

Mark Weil, CEO of TMF Group, says: "We are excited to be growing our fund administration business - one of our global specialties. The combination of State Street's private equity and real estate services and TMF Group's funds platforms means that we are brilliantly-placed to serve funds clients around the world with a single, safe and consistent service model."

Well, well ... / Excited! 'Yeah, yeah.' Ha! / He said "we are". He meant "I am", I'm sure. Let the others speak for themselves, Mark!

Okay, okay. Right. We're going to finish now with a quote from Cengiz Somay. 'Great!' Unfortunately, our Cengiz isn't excited, delighted, or thrilled. 'That's fine, boss. What is he, though?' Nothing. 'Pardon?' Just nothing. 'Oh.' Yeah. Some people are like that. However, I refuse to judge him. Only God can judge him!

Cengiz Somay, Managing Director, Channel Islands at TMF Group says: "Now with over 200 experts in the Channel Islands supported by 7,800 professionals globally, TMF Group is the best positioned firm in the market to meet the end-to-end global needs within fund services. This allows our clients to focus on investing and generating returns for their investors, with the peace of mind that TMF Group is delivering first-class fiduciary, administration, compliance and reporting services."

Thank you, Cengiz! No one's judging you. [Well, God might be, if He exists. But let's not get into that. It's too early in the morning, you dig?]

ENDS

...

Anything else? Jesus! Don't tell me you want more, dear reader(s)?! 'Unbelievable!' There is ... no more.

[I'll be writing a conceptual later, of course, for people who like that sort of thing. No. 738.]

Laters!

Neil Woodford has sold a major chunk ...

... of, uh ... pineapple?! 'Ha!' Well, I don't know. Let's find out, kook(s)!

Yesterday, it was announced that Neil Woodford has sold a major chunk of his stake in the struggling doorstep lender Non-Standard Finance. It has been reported that Woodford sold around 19% of the firm to a fund run by Alchemy Partners. After the ill-fated merger with Provident, what does this deal mean for Non-Standard Finance and their borrowers?

Okay, okay. / Yes, yes, it's a PR email. And, no, no, it wasn't yesterday, no. I received the email last Thursday, so, uh ... yesterday was actually well, last Wednesday, and so ... you probably know all about the story now, dear reader(s), being so ... ***HOWEVER(!)*** ... what you won't have yet ... because I haven't given it to you, yet ... is my, er, expert commentary and analysis. 'Ha!' Shut up, Voice! Please! 'Boss!' What? 'Why didn't you write this post last week?' BECAUSE(!) ... I don't know, man. 'Oh.' Maybe I had finished my blogging for the week and I was playing my guitar. The email might have come while I was working on the last post. 'Right.' It doesn't matter, does it? I don't owe anyone an explanation. 'Oh, okay.' Christ! Leave me alone!

NOW(!), anyway ... what does Dr Roger say? 'Dr Robert?!' Open your ears, idiot! I said Dr Roger. 'I ain't got no ears, boss!' Well, maybe you should see a doctor then.

Okay, okay ... I really like this guy, an awful lot. Day or night, he's available for a comment, like this - 'He does everything he can!' Yes! Of course he does!

Executive Chairman of FairMoney, Dr Roger Gewolb, provides the following commentary:

"This deal is a positive one that will give borrowers security over the future of their finances and future lending. Alchemy has been a successful revivor of distressed companies and Non-Standard Finance is hugely undervalued as it is still reeling from the ill-judged attempts to take over Provident. I have long been a critic of the NSF/Provident deal and am pleased for consumers and borrowers that Alchemy is providing some stability in this situation."

No one can succeed like Dr Roger.

"As I said at the time, the typical doorstep lending transaction is for around £500. The £30 million or so in fees and expenses that were due to be payable by Provvy and NSF to fight the battle which NSF started could have funded some 60,000 borrowers on challenging financial ground who need help."

He helps you to understand.

"Provident and NSF each had opportunities (and threats) to act which left the borrowers vulnerable and in unstable financial positions. Evitably, they do not have the same luxury as people like Neil Woodford, but now, they have been released from a heightened and what seemed like an indefinite period of insecurity."

Do, you, you, YOU(!) ... understand, kook(s)? Oh, I hope so.

Well, well ... / That's it! What else? 'Where's your, er ...' What?! 'Your commentary and analysis. Dr Roger has done his bit.' Ha! Are you serious, Voice? 'Well, you said -' Don't worry about what I say. Watch what I do. 'Okay. You're typing on your laptop.' Yes, I am. Keep talking. 'I'm lost for words!' Jesus.

I can't get the staff.

...

Anything else? Hell Week? Yeah, yeah, I'm doing it now. Big time. An artistic version. I won't drown, BUT(!) ... oh, maybe I will, you know, in words and music, like.

Listen! I'm thinking I'm ready to record my new demo. I've got the songs. I've got the performance skills. What I don't have is ... peace and quiet, man, because my street is full of noisy bastards.

Yes, yes, regular readers will know that my street has always been full of noisy bastards, but they seem to be getting worse. Some of them are genuine cretins. I wouldn't mind if they were simply going about their business like civilized human beings. The problem is, they screech, and howl, and bang things - at all hours!

I suppose I could go to a rehearsal studio to record. I'm not sure how quiet they are though. They're not meant for recording, really. 'Go to a proper recording studio, boss.' Oh, you're back! I can't, Voice. 'Why not?' I would need an electro acoustic, for one thing. Also, I want to take my time, and do things my way. / I'll have to do it at home. I'll have to ... find a way!

Later(s), blog and pop fan(s)!

I've got no idea!

So, uh, PR email ...

September 4, 2019 - SAN JOSE, CA - Litmus Automation, an Industrial Edge Computing platform provider, today announced it has completed a $7 million Series A round of financing led by Mitsubishi Corporation. The investment brings Litmus Automation's total funding since launching its secure Industrial Edge Computing platform to $12.6 million and will help the company quickly ramp up sales and marketing efforts to meet the demand for companies ready to move to Industry 4.0. Litmus Automation already has offices in San Jose, Toronto and Tokyo, with plans to expand to Germany.

Well, as long as they're happy, you know?

"We invested in Litmus Automation because their Edge Computing platform fills a huge gap in the market," said Takao Shinohara, General Manager, Mitsubishi. "We are confident in their excellent team and their ability to help companies realize the value of Industry 4.0 quicker and more effectively than any other provider. They already have key customers and OEM channels in place and we look forward to helping them expand."

Yeah, yeah. Okay, okay. Whatever. Thanks, Takao! / I'd rather talk about music, to be honest with you, dear reader(s).

...

Oh, music? All right then!

How many great songwriters are aware of the concept of "world-beater" songs? 'It's your concept, boss.' Well, not really, Voice. I've heard it used before. 'Not quite the same way you use it.' Maybe not. I mean, it's a strict category for me. And I doubt that many songwriters analyze what they're doing at all.

Listen! I have a theory that if Paul McCartney thought of Yesterday, Hey Jude, and Let It Be as world-beaters, as songs set apart, and he meditated on them, well ... he would be able to write more songs of that quality. 'If he had the concept in his mind, you mean?' Exactly!

Of course, he would need the hunger to write more songs like that as well. He would need to be obsessed. 'Oh.' Yeah. Never mind.

Anyway, forget it! I'm concentrating on performing at the moment. David Goggins says, in his book, like, can't remember the exact words, no, uh, something like ... Navy SEALs don't rise to the level of their aspirations, they fall to the level of their training.

Do you understand? I hope so, kook(s). For your sake(s).

...

Anything else? No. There's nothing else. It's the end of the week, and I'm tired, and I've still got my guitar to play.

Have a nice weekend! 'Bye!' Laters!

A record-breaking €10.6 billion of venture capital!

Yes. Yes. Raised by European companies. That's all right, ain't it? 'What's this, boss?' It's a PR email, Voice, obviously, from, uh ... our friends at Refinitiv. 'Oh, that's nice.' Yes, it is.

The total raised, during the first six months of 2019 (H1 2019), marked an increase of 61% year on year. Despite the record-breaking deal values in the period, deal volumes continued to decline as only 683 rounds were completed in the first half. This is down 7% from H1 2018 and marked the slowest start to a year since 2009.

Oh no! Deal volumes are down. Christ! 'Does that matter, boss?' How would I know?! I wouldn't know. But it doesn't sound great, does it?. However, I'm not going to get too upset about it. Actually, I don't think Greg is upset at all. 'Greg?! Greg, who?!' Jesus! Greg. Our Greg. 'Oh, you mean Greg Bauman.' Of course I do! Why wouldn't I mean Greg Bauman?!

Anyway, this is what Greg says ...

Greg Bauman, Manager, Private Equity Contributions at Refinitiv comments: "We're seeing firms raising more money than ever from investors but at the same time, firms are becoming more selective and are preferring to invest in more established businesses."

Oh, okay. Fair enough. 'He's very calm, ain't he, our Greg?' Ha! He's a professional, Voice.

Late-stage companies accounted for 26 percent of total rounds in H1 2019, larger than any documented annual share. Information Technology (IT) remained the main recipient of VC investing in the first quarter by a wide margin, securing €8.4 billion, or 80%. This was followed by Life Sciences with €1.1bn and other sectors made up €1.0bn.

Ha, ha, ha. Uh. They love their IT, don't they, these VC firms?

Well, here's more of it - the email, like ...

Outside investment continued to be one of the main driving forces behind the increase in expenditure, particularly from investors overseas, as funds based in the Americas supplied 31% of all equity from disclosed sources during the half, a share not seen since 2001.

Top European VC deals in H1 2019 were the €1.1 billion funding round into OneWeb, followed by Deliveroo’s €515 million investment and GetYourGuide, which secured a €433 million investment.

Private equity deals slow in H1 2019

European companies saw buyout and related deal values of €41.6 billion in H1 2019, down 19% from the same period last year but was still the third strongest first half in the previous decade.

A total of 624 buyout and related private equity deals were completed during the first six months of 2019. Despite a drop in values, these volumes were up 13% from the same period last year.

As volumes increased, so too did PE's share of all M&A activity, climbing to 8% in H1 2019, a level not seen since the first half of 2014.

The top three sectors for investments were: Industrial/Energy with €9.5bn (23%), Consumer Related with €8.1bn (20%), and Computer Software with €7.1bn (17%).

Top European deals for the half was led by Merlin Entertainments, which received a recommended offer of €6.6 billion announced at the end of June. This was followed by the €4.3 billion, Cepsa, and €4.0 billion acquisition of Travelport Worldwide.

The global deal-making by European PE funds sustained a rapid pace in H1 2019, as investors joined 84 transactions valued at €21.9 billion, the strongest first-half since 2008.

Okay, okay. / Listen! I don't have much to add, dear reader(s), or anything to add, really. Because I'm not an expert in these matters - I'm a mystical guy - but ... 'Our Greg is!' Yes, our Greg's an expert, and he's looking ahead now ...

Looking ahead

Greg comments: "Venture Capital activity looks to be continuing at pace and looks likely to surpass the full year 2018 investment total by the end of September. This year is therefore likely to see the largest year since the dot-com era barring an unforeseen downturn. On Private Equity, we are also seeing a strong deal outlook for the rest of the year which should make reaching or surpassing the 2018 tally is a real possibility."

ENDS

Okay, okay. Thanks for that, Greg!

...

Anything else? Not at the moment, no. I'll be writing another post later, for my sins.

What will I be writing about? Er, I have another PR email, so - 'Great!' Or, no, no, no ... I might write about music, man. 'Even better, Mikey!' I haven't decided yet, kook(s).

Laters.

We don't want no addresses no more!

Er, well, I do, because I'm not a revolutionary, [ha!], but ... our Jinksy has gone crazy. He's like Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. Power has gone straight to his head. 'What power, boss?' Oh, hello, Voice. Our Jinksy controls all the parcels in the country, I think. 'Did he tell you that?!' I just presumed it. I mean, it's the way he talks. He's very convincing. 'Full of himself.' Ha!

Oh, by the way, dear reader(s), I'm doing parcels again BECAUSE(!) ... I ain't got no finance PR emails, you dig? Don't blame me! 'Don't blame him, kooks!' They better not, man.

Anyway ...

The parcel price comparison site ParcelHero is calling for the end of 18th Century addresses and the post code lottery. It says the number's up for house names and post codes.

I told you!

There is a terrace house in London that is undoubtedly the most famous address in the country. But how is its location best identified? By its road name and number: 10 Downing Street? By its postcode: SW12 2AA? In years to come the international delivery expert ParcelHero says we should be using the more accurate Plus code: GV3C+8X. Or even three little words: slurs.this.shark.

Oh my God! 'Jinksy's lost it, boss! Oh, heavenly powers, restore him!' What on earth does he mean by "slurs this shark"?!

Whether you are addressing a parcel in ten years' time, or finding a house by sat nav, ParcelHero says it should not be by using outmoded house names and numbers, or even post codes. Says David Jinks MILT, Head of Consumer Research for ParcelHero: "It's time to end the use of ancient methods of ensuring parcels are delivered or locations found. Street numbers were introduced in Britain in the 1700s. We've had 300 years to get the system right; yet even today there are many homes that don't have a street number in rural areas. Many isolated houses are still identified by their name, just as they would have been several hundred years ago. That's not a great system for hard-pressed couriers trying to deliver packages."

Christ! Who cares about the couriers?! I'll tell you, dear reader(s), there was one guy who couldn't find my house with a sat nav. He went to the next street!

Adds David: "And if you have ever punched in a post code to a sat nav, you will know it's a literal post code lottery whether you actually end up at the right destination. Simple postcodes were introduced in London as far back as 1850, and modern postcodes were first phased in sixty years ago - though it took until 1974 to finish the project. And they are equally far from infallible: over 40 addresses can share the same postcode in some areas. And while the Royal Mail and Ordnance Survey systems are entirely integrated, not all Satellite Navigation devices and Internet mapping services use Ordnance Survey’s mapping and data. That means many homeowners have grown sick of their packages and letters being continually delivered to the wrong house, and visitors failing to find them."

No, no, no. That's not the problem. The guy who took my parcel to the other street was some kind of idiot. Seriously!

David says technologies already exist that ...

Okay, okay. That's enough! I don't want to hear about drunken sharks slurring their words.

...

Anything else?

Music? Spider exercise? Oh, I should have been doing it years ago, man. I would have made a lot more progress. It's not just for lead guitar playing, you know - which I'm not bothered with at the moment. It strengthens your hand for rhythm playing, too. Never mind. You live and learn, don't you?

Laters!

Is it the end of summer - at last?

There seems to be a lot of confusion. However, I have been speaking to expert Euan Munro. I mean, I phoned him late last night. Just before bedtime. This is, uh ... what was spoken between us, like. This ...

Hello, Michael. Do you want to talk about funds? Ha! No, Euan, I want to talk about the weather. Yeah, well ... it's over, man. The summer. You said that last time. I mean it this time. It's quite nice this morning, Euan. Yeah, yeah. But it's going to rain this week. You better break out the Dennis Wilson album, Mikey. No, I'm trying to stay positive. But it's tradition! Screw tradition, Euan! I want to achieve some things this autumn and winter. I'm trying to maintain a positive mindset. Fair enough. So ... do you want to talk about funds, then? Do I want to talk about funds?! Yes. No.

Well, dear reader(s), we spoke for a while longer about ... this and that. But Euan didn't want to talk about funds. 'Boss, he never wants to talk about funds!' Oh, hello, Voice. Yeah. That's why I like him so much. Euan's a "finance" man I can relate to.

...

Okay, okay.

One day, I'll talk about funds again. [I've got a bad feeling.] Unless my ship comes in soon. Probably the Titanic.

Oh, I'll stop thinking like a victim! / Listen to me ... I'll start thinking like a god!

['What's new?']

We live in a land where there is no democracy, and no law. So be it! Let the monsters come! We'll not be afraid.

In the darkness of the human heart, you can find the light of the cosmos.

We must leave this place, this rotten earth - with our minds!

Let our bodies wander amongst the insane. They will suspect nothing, these lunatics.

Inside, we are safe.

Do you understand?

We can't be touched by demons. It's a choice, my friend(s)! You simply have to refuse.

Be brave!

I have a destiny. / Maybe you do, too.

Stay strong!
